Do We Love or Hate the Emmy Nominees?

The 2009 Emmy nominees are in... and this time, since The Wire no longer qualifies, we have no reason to particularly care who gets nominated. But maybe you do...

The Shield = no nominations. Start your anger management classes now.

Family Guy = nominated for Best Comedy Series, something The Simpsons has never achieved, which is patently absurd.

30 Rock and Mad Men = with 22 nominations and 16 nominations, respectively, shows that quality television is still awarded, although not necessarily with ratings. "30 Rock" once again dominated the nominations, with picks for best comedy series, best actor in a comedy (Alec Baldwin) and best actress in a comedy (Tina Fey). Moreover, of the five nominations for outstanding writing for a comedy series, "30 Rock" received four. (The other went to "Flight of the Conchords.") [CNN]

Battlestar Galactica = five nominations, none in the major categories its rapid fanbase pushed for.

The nominees for best drama are "Lost," "Mad Men," "House," "Breaking Bad," "Dexter," "Damages" and "Big Love."

The nominees for best comedy series are "Entourage," "30 Rock," "The Office," "Family Guy," "Flight of the Conchords," "Weeds" and "How I Met Your Mother."

"Bullshit!" was nominated for best writing and best editing. That's the extent to which I care.
