Real Or Fake: Plus-Sized Model's Bellybutton
By Drew GrantJanuary 4th, 2010, 5:04 pmComments (12)
Fun trivia fact: the reason Barbara Eden's pants were so high in I Dream Of Jeannie had nothing to do with the fashion of the times. NBC's censors just didn't think that flashes of a navel were appropriate for viewers back in the day, the same reason why all those shows also featured husband and wife sleeping in separate beds of the same room.
Things may have changed a lot over the years, but apparently ad men still don't know where the human bellybutton is placed on the body, as evidenced by this Lane Bryant ad, which Jezebel pointed out today has the woman's 'button sitting "a few inches above its owner's right thigh." We're not so sure it's Photoshopped though: look at the way she's bending towards her side, her tummy could have pooched a little down and taken her bellybutton with it.
Decide for yourself with a bigger picture after the jump.

I don't know if its photo-shopped or not, but its definitely freaking me out.
I don't know if I will ever be able to trust an ad campaign ever again. Maybe this is all-nautural, but I'm too cynical about it.
Let me give you a hint. If you're looking at a photo of a model, it's been Photoshopped. This one was done badly, but not badly enough to get on http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/
She's plus sized? That's ridiculous!
It's real, it looks normal once you line up the middle of the bra with it, her body is just slightly twisted.. Do that pose in the mirror and you'll see!
Of course she's plus-sized, in the sense that her dress size is a non-negative number. I'm guessing 3.
That bellybutton is definitely not natural. It's not so much that it's off-center, it's that it seems way to low to me.
But what's really freaking me out is the fact that this model is considered pluz-sized. She doesn't even look THAT different from any other model to me. I mean, she's got a hint of a crease at above her hip. That's a no-no for regular models, I guess. Sheesh, she doesn't look that different from me and I'm a size 4 to 6!
I think it's pretty clear that her tummy pooched down, and they 'shopped out the pooch rolls but forgot to adjust the bellybutton to match.
Agree with Winnie - this one looks pretty natural to me, but I will never, ever, ever trust as real anything that I see in any way related to fashion or advertising.
That doesn't look that photoshopped at all. Another fail for Jezebel.
I don't know or particularly care about the photo shopping, but you get 5 million extra points for saying 'pooched down.' Pooched, pooched, pooched. Pooch. That is the best word, for the rest of today.
it's a shame that we've gotten so fat that plus sized models are 'normal' now. but, as soon as you see the outline of a rib (the horror), people scream that the girl needs a sandwich.
Now you say something
