What Do You Think of the Vanity Fair New Hollywood Issue Cover?
By James Brady RyanFebruary 1st, 2010, 6:15 pmComments (13)The cover image for the upcoming New Hollywood Issue of VF was released today, and as usual, it features a three-page spread of hot young actresses shot in gauzy bright lighting by Annie Leibovitz. So, who made the cut?
From left to right, that's: Abbie Cornish, Kristin Stewart, Carrie Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Hall, Mia Wasikowska, Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood, and Anna Kendrick.
Some of these are obvious: Anna Kendrick and Carey Mulligan, for instance, are both probably going to be nominated for Oscars tomorrow, and Kristin Stewart is in Twilight, so duh. Some are happy surprises: I have a soft spot for Emma Stone, for some reason, and it's good to see that Cornish is getting some recognition for her role in the generally overlooked Bright Star. And then some of them are definitely special deliveries from left field (sorry, Rebecca Hall, but I barely know who you are).
But the real thing that puzzles me about this cover is this: where the hell is Gabourey Sidibe? In a year when she is arguably the break-out young actress and a lock for a Best Actress nomination, if not a win, what business does she have not being on this cover? Especially when two of the pictured actresses are repeats from earlier "New Hollywood" issues and one of them is Evan Rachel Wood.
So that's my beef. But what do you guys say? Who was unfairly left out? Who was unfairly let in? Let us know in the comments.

As Seinfeld says, "who are these people?" I would love to see an analysis of how correct VF has been as predicting future celebrity.
Fuck who they are. Those tarty-looking bitches would look good all sweaty after a wrasslin' match on my living-room floor - and I wouldn't plan on being the referee.
Rebecca Hall was FAB in Vicky Cristina Barcelona
I'm not african-american but I can clearly see that the picture is all white...
I think Kerry Washington and Rosario Dawson made the New Hollywood issue of VF once upon a time, and they were both on the inside pull-out not the front cover. How could they not include Zoe Saldana when she has clearly become a sci-fi geek's wet dream after being in "Star Trek" and "Avatar"? The thing that wears me out is having these faceless girls being touted as "the next big thing" and they all look alike with nothing to distinguish them. I really wish Hollywood would look at itself and realize there are so many different and beautiful women/people in the world that have incredible stories to tell, and they just keep giving us the same dreck.
Someone mentioned on another website was Zoe Saldana who was in a number of very good movies-she should have easily been on this list, and yes Sidebe as well. I think these magazine people are not in touch with what's going on it Hollywood because if they were, they would see that it's not all WHITENESS
This is photo is whiter than me and the whitest of the fucking white.
Whoa... they all kinda look the same. Very freaky.
um, yeah, it's quite obvious why Sidibe isn't there. Is she talented? Yes, beyond talented. Is she marketable? No. Every year hundreds of movies could be made with anyone of these girls, but very few could be made with Sidibe as the star. It's may seem like shit, but that's Hollywood...and America (because HW reflects what the people want to see).
Did any of the commenters actually have anything to say about the acting of these young women? No? Just want to talk about their looks/whiteness then? Okay, carry on.
Why are such beautiful people in such drab, unsexy clothes?
Also, dudes, this is V(fucking)F, the whitest magazine for the whitest of peoples. I'm sorry, but there's no fucking quota here. Does Vibe have a greatest actresses list with any white girls on it? No. Is anyone surprised by this? No. VF is the Ebony of white people. Get a fucking clue. Society isn't always some b.s. PC rainbow. I would wager in most Conde publications of this ilk (Vogue, VF, etc) multi-racialness is a "problem" but they're magazine for, by, to and from white people. That's the truth and there ain't nothing wrong with that.
If you don't know who Rebecca Hall is, you have no business commenting on the picture.
Sidibe was great in Precious, but what other movies have you seen her in? You have no idea what kind of range she has, because PRECIOUS WAS HER FIRST MOVIE. Before playing the race card on an easy target, it would be nice if you actually thought it through for a minute.
Now you say something
