Today in God-fearing hypocrisy, apparently it’s still OK to make fun of Jesus.
A new cartoon show, only barely in the developmental phase, is in the works to air on Comedy Central that would center around a displaced Jesus Christ trying to live a normal life in New York City, all while evading the large shadow of his father: the almighty God. The program, to be called JC, will be "a playful take on religion and society with a sprinkle of dumb."
Now we love religious mockery, but to make this announcement only a couple of weeks after kowtowing to the demands of some radical Muslim fringe group? Seems a little weird. In case you live in a bucket, the 200th and 201st episodes of South Park drew quite a bit of heat from the Muslim community for attempting to depict an image of the prophet Muhammad. So prior to the 201st episode Comedy Central severely edited its content by bleeping out references and censoring images.
But for all the wonders Comedy Central has brought us, we can’t stay mad. We understand. It’s pretty terrifying when people say they’re going to kill you. Nonetheless, we’re just a bit disappointed. Let’s fight for a world where we can be equal-opportunity mockers.
