Clips From “Kaboom” Prove Gregg Araki Is Still Gregg Araki

Don’t get me wrong; I loved "Mysterious Skin", and his other films have their moments, but these clips kind of feel like his entire body of work put into a blender with the Vanity Fair "Young Hollywood" issue. This is not, necessarily, a bad thing.

I’ll admit, the first clip made me laugh. (Of course, I am an easy sell when it comes to sexually adventurous cute guys.) And I will probably see this. But after the surprisingly mature and thoughtfully crafted departure that was Mysterious Skin, I worry that Kaboom — which involves a sci-fi plot to end the world when it’s not concerned with sexual bingo — feels a bit like a retread of his "Doom Generation" trilogy.

What do you think, readers? Has Araki earned the benefit of the doubt?
