As I’m sure you’ve heard, Rue McClanahan passed away this morning at the age of seventy-six after suffering a stroke. She was probably best known for her performance as Blanche Devereux on The Golden Girls, a character that was groundbreaking for being an older, sexually active woman who was respected and not demeaned or reviled. (This also means that Betty White is now the last remaining Golden Girl.) While we here at Scanner are obviously upset about this news, we think it’s only fitting that we send off McClanahan with this fantastic (and fantastically sexy) burlesque performance from 1968’s Hollywood After Dark. Enjoy.
