Zach Galifinakis plays another good-hearted lunatic in ‘It’s Kind Of A Funny Story’

Personally, I enjoy all of his roles regardless of the quality of the movie. He was excellent as a cartoonist weirdo in the short-lived HBO series Bored to Death (is it canceled?), I liked him as a 9-5 stiff with portentous, head-exploding dreams in Visioneers, and of course there's the The Hangover. There's even a quick cut in the admittedly not great-looking, broadly targeted Dinner For Schmucks trailer where Zach G stares out menacingly from a magazine cover above the text "YOUR MIND IS MY PUPPET," and it never fails to make me laugh.

His role as a mentally infirm man-baby in the upcoming movie adaptation of the YA novel It's Kind of a Funny Story is not out of step for him. Also, it's probably impossible to purge the glint of crazy from his eyes.

The movie seems cute, the trailer makes it seem like an oh-so-predictable, sweet and inoffensive indie comedy, but trailers can do that. Maybe it will pull an Inception, where the trailer explains nothing (though this trailer explains everything), and the complicated plot conceit will unfold then refold then unfold then refold over time. Probably not. But enjoy!
