Amy Adams to play Janis Joplin, of all people

Amy Adams, whose body of work mostly includes put-upon sweet ladies and different kinds of princesses, has been picked by Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey to play Janis Joplin in an upcomng biopic. What, was Zooey Deschanel busy? Haha! (Seriously, Deschanel is rumored to be attached to the project as well.) City of God director and genius person Fernando Meirelles will direct.

Who knows, maybe they’ll prove us all wrong. The rotating cast of Dylan impersonators in I’m Not There was unconventional, but it worked. And the formerly unknown actor who played Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis in Control (Curtis, whose cult status is so closely guarded by fans it was almost doomed to mediocrity) practically became the rock legend.

Rosy-cheeked Adams may prove us wrong. Maybe she’ll throw up better, harder and with more spirit apropos of a rock star in decline than anyone thought. But, probably not.

On a personal note, who do you think would make the better Janis Joplin?
