Isaiah Mustafa, colloquially known as the Old Spice Guy, is taking his sudden fame to dizzying new heights. After increasing body wash sales by a muscular 107 percent, Mustafa is now lending his popularity to less beloved projects, namely NBC’s Chuck and a Jennifer Aniston movie, Horrible Bosses. And if you’re already trying to hate him in anticipation of the backlash that will happen amongst people who backlash against things they like, you’re going to have a really hard time. Just check out how nice he sounds in this Hollywood Reporter interview:
"It’s a dream come true… [My role in Horrible Bosses featuring Jennifer Aniston is] a smaller role, but who wouldn’t want to be in one of those funny, irreverent comedies?"
It’s like he doesn’t even know that he was already in the funniest, most irreverent comedy of the year. This sweet humility is good news, as it will ensure that, as an actor and a human being, Mustafa won’t be pigeonholed as the cocksure Old Spice Guy. It will not, however, stop people from putting "Old Spice Guy" in headlines for stories about the guy.
