Trailer for Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours” starring James Franco released

Director Danny Boyle's next project, 127 Hours, tells the story of Aron Ralston, the mountain climber who became trapped by a falling rock in the middle of nowhere in 2003. (You can come up with your own rock/hard place joke, because I refuse. I have some dignity left.)  Eventually, Ralston had to amputate his own arm with basically a knock-off Leatherman tool. (Sorry for that image.) James Franco stars as the unfortunate adventurer, and despite the necessary isolation of Ralston throughout most of the film, there are some other exciting names on the cast list, like Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls, True Blood), Kate Mara (Brokeback Mountain, sister of the future Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Amber Tamblyn (she must feel sad that Carey Mulligan stole her face).

One thing I love about this trailer: it's the complete opposite of what you're expecting. Seldom do you see tales of survival in the most horrible of circumstances shot in such dazzling and beautiful color.

I was skeptical about this film from the start, despite the talent involved, if only because I thought watching a guy slowly starve and then cut off his arm for two hours sounded more like Lars Von Trier on a bad day. (And with less misogyny.) But I have to hand it to Boyle — I really want to see this film.
