Reader Feedback on "Sex by Numbers"
I would like to point out a potential alternate explanation for the race preference on dating sites. I am a white woman who does not care about race, but I do care about people who act sterotypically "black" or "redneck", etc. So, if I would go onto a dating site, I would of course say that race doesn't matter, but if I encountered a black man who loves rap "music" (which I hate), or a hispanic who works at minimum wage and has no desire to ever rise in his job, or a Native American who is extremely religious, I would not contact any of them. If, however, I found someone like my current boyfriend, who hates rap, is interested in finance, and is a capitalist, I would probably respond, be he white, black (like my boyfriend), asian, hispanic, or anything else. --DT 06/04 |
