Reader Feedback on "Live Journal"
I had the opportunity hear Ms Koppel speak at the Miami Book Fair in Nov 2008. I was both intrigued and enchanted by this incredible story. I just finished the book and I enjoyed every word.
My daughter and my book club beleive this book to be a true treasure and we thank Ms Koppel

You underestimate the youth of today. Young girls aren't looking wideyed and breathless toward Paris & La Lohan-- why would rapidly developing personalities look to bloggers of all people for guidance? Yes it's tragic that tabloids are our cloud cover, so to speak, but curiosity and philosophizing and becoming enraptured with some new & amazing discovery aren't experiences unique to the 20's or the 60's or your own adolescence. Geez.

I hate MA because he's crusty and lonely. But Will Doig is a wonderful interviewer. So in tune with the soul of this character, well person really. If only the NY Times interviewers were even half the reader that he is!

To "MA" - Re-read the interview. She never says that she found the diary. She says that she found the trunks.

Koppel's story--that she found the journal in a dumpster herself--is contradicted by a piece she wrote for The New York Times in 2006:
"A young building engineer who worked at 98 Riverside Drive rescued the book, wrapped it in a plastic Zabar’s bag, and stashed it in his locker. He showed the book to me, and I shared it with a New York lawyer named Charles Eric Gordon (license plate “Sleuth”), who specializes in tracking down missing persons."
