Reader Feedback on "Lights, Camera, Lots of Action"
Excellent article. I had the pleasure of seeing three of the films mentioned (couldn't score tix to 9 Songs, damnit). 'Me, You, and Everyone We Know' was one of my faves of the festival. Superb. 'Shelby Knox' was an amazing portait of a true individual growing into herself and her worldview. Congrats to everyone involved, both crew and subject. 'Girl from Monday' is typical Hal Hartley pseudo-intellectual pretentious crap. Every time I give that guy a second chance, he dissapoints. I think I've finally learned my lesson...
Anyway, what's with that reviewer of Hard Candy below? If attempted castration is developing into a problem for this guy, maybe there is a REASON for that. --PEO 02/27 |
In this time of increasing self censorship in the arts and film, it is vitually a public service to provide your readers with a different perspective. It's encouraging to realize that independent filmmakers seem to be reacting to the current neo-Puritanism. Now if I could only get the local multiplex to devote a screen to the Sundance entries! --wb 02/12 |
Harriet Yahr Rocks. Thanks for the terrific summary on Sex at the Sundance Festival...Independent Film remains one of the strongest venues for an honest exploration of sex and the human condition. --Ilo 02/09 |
re hard candy: nothing that complex about it. women like the idea of castrating men, and this film caters to them. of course, this aspect is officially a secret (the central focus of the plot is never mentioned in the imdb entry or promotional materials). a word to other men: if your girlfriend or wife drags you to this sadistic pile, you need to run away from them asap. don't say i didn't warn you.
