The New Radicals

Lately we only hear the word "radical" in the context of pejorative-tossing between the political right and left, but I've always liked the word because it's so sluttily inclusive: it could mean something that's totally fundamental, a compete departure from the traditional or, in the view of Jeff Spicoli, just plain worthy of awe. In this issue, we wanted to recognize people who are making the world a more sexually honest place, and when we made our list, we found all those definitions apt. These are people who uphold the core principles of their field, completely reset the program or just have that inexplicable, jaw-dropping something. Our fifty honorees span the worlds of entertainment, politics, art, the recent past and the near future. We hope it's a little more inspiring than the usual Hot, It, Wow and Now issues that clog the newsstands around this time of year. But don't let that stop you from clicking on Feedback and adding to the list yourself. — Michael Martin
